Drive your own huskies to a reindeer farm

You stand on the runners and drive your own husky team 5 km through old snowy forest to a small reindeer farm, then 2 km back after a soup lunch. Pick it when you want to steer something yourself, with a quiet farm visit in the middle and a group small enough to feel like a family visit.

Self-Drive Husky Safari with a Reindeer Farm Visit

About this experience

Be clear on what this is. It is a husky safari, not a reindeer sleigh ride. You drive your own husky team, 5 km out from a small homestead kennel and 2 km back, and the reindeer are a farm visit at the halfway stop. That makes it the one tour on this site where you steer. On every reindeer tour here a herder or guide leads the reindeer, and you sit back. It has 4.9 stars from 73 reviews and costs from $319 per person in 2026. You can cancel free up to 24 hours before.

North Tours runs it from a quiet rural spot, with transport from set pickup points. At the reindeer farm, which the operator says you can only reach by husky sleigh, a reindeer expert tells you about the animals and the life around them. You feed the reindeer and take photos, then sit down to a traditional warming soup with dairy and meat. You can swap drivers at the farm before the 2 km run back. Guests say the guides follow on a snowmobile and groups are small, around 8 people.

Plan your clothes. The listing says the operator does not provide thermal clothing or accessories, and the weather can be very cold and windy. You need warm, wind-resistant gear, a hat and thick gloves. The ride can be bumpy with sudden movements, so think twice if you are pregnant or have back pain. It is not suitable for people with a low level of fitness or babies under 1, and the listing says you must be over 18 to drive.

We had a wonderful day. The dog sled ride is long enough and also interrupted by a break with the reindeer, so that you can take turns driving. You can see that the animals belong to the family and are loved. We were able to learn a lot about farm life. The whole tour was relaxing and unhurried. You have enough time to spend with the animals, to stroke them and to ask questions.

[...] The tiny tour groups make you feel like you're being invited to someone's family home where they happen to have huskies and reindeer. The huskies were so excited to pull the sledge and so friendly. The husky ride was wonderful, you drive yourself, but the guides stay nearby on a snowmobile, just to make sure you and the dogs are safe. The reindeer experience was magical and totally respectful of the animals. [...]

The experience was as authentic as it can get. The guides are locals that really care about their animals and tradition. The farm is near Rovaniemi in a very beautiful forest. I really recommend this tour if you don’t want something too comercial or touristy. Most important, the animals are happy and well cared for. The guides are great storytellers, so make sure to ask them a lot of questions.

This Husky Safari with reindeer farm visit was definitely the highlight of our week in Rovaniemi. The money is really worth it because the guides took so much time for us to explain anything about the animals and the husky safari was just magical! [...] When we arrived at the reindeer farm we had the most delicious soup and hot juice with cookies. [...]
